People are always asking me, “Can’t you live without your water bottle for the trip inside the grocery/this work meeting/a quick workout?” The answer is always no, I cannot. Many people don’t understand the importance of hydration like I do. I am 29-year-old marketing manager, photographer and athlete. Health, fitness and nutrition are especially important to me. I was diagnosed with Dysautonomia/POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) in 2010. Basically, my autonomic nervous system doesn’t work correctly. Your ANS is responsible for things your body is supposed to do automatically – heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, body temperature, etc. It causes low blood volume and low blood pressure. One of the most crucial parts of feeling well with POTS is hydration. Increased hydration=increased blood volume=help with low blood pressure=me feeling better. Over the last 5 years I have made great strides in my health. I always have a water bottle with me and alternate between water and Ultima Replenisher. I am now back to being active like I used to be prior to diagnosis — I am hiking, running my own photography business, spending a lot of time outdoors, taking the dogs (I have one rescue pup named Phoebe and also foster pit bulls) on long walks and doing yoga. Ultima gives me the peace of mind that I can feel well and still enjoy the activities I love, while not putting harmful chemicals in my body at the same time. I am still an athlete, but a different kind of athlete since my diagnosis than most.
