Becca Pizzi's Road to the World Marathon Challenge

Our Ambassador Becca Pizzi has been an amazing part of the Ultima family for much of 2015. When we first met her, we could not believe the strength and determination she had for attempting to complete the World Marathon Challenge. Now, after months and months of training, race day is almost here! Becca's journey will begin on January 17, when she lands in Punta Arenas, Chile. From there, she will fly to Antarctica where she and the other runners with test out gear and adapt to the frigid weather for two days before the actual race. Punta Arenas Chile, Miami Florida, Madrid Spain, Marrakech Morocco, Dubai UAE, and Sydney Australia will follow in the days after. Leading up to the Challenge, Becca has had a very rigorous training schedule. She would train very heavily, running anywhere from 70 to 100 miles per week, combined with cross training, such as yoga (at her favorite studio, Groundworks Yoga and Wellness) and weight training. Becca consults with her doctor and personal trainer on how to stay healthy and happy throughout the intense workouts she puts herself through. She also makes sure to constantly keep herself fueled. Last time we spoke, she told me "I eat a bowl of pasta with chicken or another protein every night!". She also spoke with one of last years World Marathon Challenge runners who advised her, "Eat whatever you can, whenever you can. Even if you're not hungry, always take the food and snack on it later." The schedule during the Challenge is so rough on the runners that it is very easy for them to not fuel up correctly. Becca also drinks Ultima while she trains, but due to the extreme nature of her workouts, she doubles up her servings to two scoops of Ultima to 8-12oz of water. World Marathon Challenge Map Now that the event is so close, Becca has limited her training to 60 miles a week, plus a couple of personal training sessions. Prior to the first race in Antarctica, Becca will also be going on 'Shake Out' runs to test her cold weather gear (she will be covered from head to toe, wear polarized sunglasses, and add YakTrax to her running shoes) and adjust to the icy and cold conditions. Becca also has an amazing support system. Her family, friends, and daughter Taylor are her biggest cheerleaders. They attend as many races as they can with her and keep her spirits high. Along the way to the World Marathon Challenge, Becca has also gained the support from three key sponsors, Ultima Replenisher, Dr. Cool, and Lyon-Waugh Auto Group as well as donated clothing from LuluLemon Natick location to wear throughout her races!
