Why Morning Nutrition is So Important
We’re pretty sure that you’ve heard the line, “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!” But have you ever stopped to think about the importance of what that breakfast consists of? Grabbing a donut or a baked good first thing in the morning is just not going to cut it (where are the nutrients in that?)! Here are three good rules we follow about breakfast!
1. Think Protein - Starting the day off with protein will not only keep you full longer (hopefully until lunch), but it will also help your body stay strong and your mind focused. Consuming protein instead of carbs first thing in the a.m. keeps you dialed-in vs. day dreaming by 10am. Try adding flax, chia or Hemp Hearts to your greek yogurt or make a delicious veggie omelet. You could even make mini quiches the night before and have them as a grab and go option.
2. NEVER Skip Breakfast - This is one of the worst things you can do! Not only will you be dragging yourself before noon, your mind won’t be as sharp, your focus will be blurred and your pants will be tighter. It’s true! Studies have shown that breakfast-skippers of all ages are more likely to be overweight than regular breakfast eaters.
3. You’re Setting a GREAT Example - According to a study published at the University of Minnesota, 25% of teens regularly miss breakfast. The crazy fact about this is that it’s linked to their parents skipping breakfast as well. Good grades = good eating habits! Let them learn from the best, and don’t skimp on their protein intake either. A nutrient-rich breakfast for their growing minds is key.
On top of all this, don’t forget to start your day off with a nice big glass of water. Adding a fresh lemon in there will help to eliminate toxins from your blood stream too! Why not get those extra electrolytes in first thing in the morning as well, by adding a scoop of Ultima Replenisher? Might as well be the lemonade flavor to go with your lemon. It will be the perfect way to start your day!
Enjoy.
